The first St. George's building was opened in 1843 to accommodate the overflow from Christ Church Cathedral and was located just outside the city walls.   The Rev. William Bennett Bond was appointed assistant minister in 1848 and was appointed rector in 1862.

The present building was opened for worship on October 9, 1870.   On October 16, 1878, Dean Bond was elected Bishop of Montreal and on January 25, 1879 he was consecrated in St George's Church.

Bishop Bond was replaced as rector by Rev Dr Edward Sullivan of Trinity Church, Chicago who had been assistant at St George's from 1863-68.   Rev Dr Sullivan remained rector until 1882 when he was elected the second Bishop of Algoma.   He was consecrated in St George's on June 29, 1882.

St George's, Montreal, QuebecIn 1893, Andrew Frederick Gault made a large contribution to the cost of building the church tower.   Gault was also instrumental in saving Trinity Church, Montreal and in building the Theological College.

St. George's Anglican Church was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990.
